Types of Wheel Brushes

Crimped wire wheel brushes — Steel, stainless steel, or brass wire filaments with a crimped (wavy) profile that provides flex and resilience during operation. The crimped construction reduces wire breakage and delivers a consistent, controlled brushing action. Suitable for general rust removal, surface cleaning, and light deburring on bench grinders and angle grinders.

Knotted wire wheel brushes — Wire filaments are twisted into knots or cables before being assembled into the wheel, producing a stiffer and more aggressive brush face than crimped wire. Recommended for heavy-duty weld spatter removal, scale removal, and aggressive surface preparation. Available in carbon steel and stainless steel.

Nylon wheel brushes — Abrasive nylon filaments (silicon carbide or aluminum oxide) for deburring, surface finishing, and polishing without the risk of wire breakage or workpiece contamination. Also available in plain nylon or horsehair for gentle cleaning and polishing applications on wood and sensitive surfaces.

Stem-mounted wheel brushes — Compact wheel brushes fitted with a steel shank or spindle for use in electric drills, die grinders, and rotary tools. Ideal for rust removal, cleaning, and surface finishing in confined areas and hard-to-reach locations.
