Our honing brushes — commonly known as flex hones or flexible hone brushes — are designed for cylinder bore finishing, surface conditioning, deburring, and controlled material removal inside cylindrical bores and passages. Unlike rigid honing tools, flexible hone brushes use a ball-end abrasive construction mounted on flexible stems that self-center in the bore and conform to the bore geometry, producing a consistent cross-hatch finish with plateau surface characteristics ideal for oil retention.

How Flex Hone Brushes Work

Each flexible hone brush consists of a series of abrasive globules bonded to flexible nylon stems radiating from a central wire core. When rotated inside a bore, the flexible stems allow the abrasive balls to follow the bore profile and apply consistent, uniform pressure around the full circumference. The result is a controlled surface finish — smooth enough to eliminate sharp burrs and micro-irregularities, while rough enough to retain lubricating oil for moving components.

Available Abrasive Materials

• Silicon carbide (SiC) — The most common abrasive for general cylinder honing, brake rotor conditioning, and surface finishing on cast iron, aluminum, and steel bores
• Aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) — For harder materials and applications requiring a finer, more controlled surface finish
• Ceramic grain — Premium abrasive for precision bore finishing and deburring where tight surface finish tolerances are required
